The tower offers much of the creature comforts, holiday makers have come to expect, including underfloor heating, beautiful lime stone floors, Wifi, and a log burner in the sitting room, ideal for those crisp winter breaks, watching an endless procession of ships on the horizon through the panoramic windows, with on clear days glimpses of Cap Gris Nez, the closest point of France to England.

Built originally as a HM Coastguard radar monitoring station for shipping in the Channel, when this role was no longer needed with the advent of GPS, the building was converted as a studio and weekend home for a growing family, into this contemporary home, the perfect location for a holiday away from the routine and stress of modern life.

Coastguards Lookout: sleeps 5 with 2 receptions, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (via bedroom 1), two balconies, patio on the pebble beach, adjacent parking for several cars.

The property is a converted 50's tower, distributed over four floors with a steep metal staircase; this would not be suited to those with mobility issues or very small children.

The entire property is open plan, no doors - division by way of walls and staircase.

What makes this area so special...

The Old Lighthouse is a popular visitor attraction, as is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch steam railway which passes close by, a wonderful way to enjoy Kent's scenery.

There are two pubs on the reserve, The Britannia and The Pilot, and the unique 'Fish Hut' selling caught-on-the day fresh fish and lobster rolls in summer.

The wonderful former smuggler's town of Rye with its choice of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants is well worth a visit and only 10 miles away.

This is recognised and protected mostly through its conservation designations as a national nature reserve (NNR), a Special Protection Area (SPA), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) of Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay.

There is a remarkable variety of wildlife living at Dungeness, with over 600 different types of plant: a third of all those found in Britain. It is one of the best places in Britain to find insects such as moths, bees and beetles, and spiders; many of these are very rare, some found nowhere else in Britain.
