deplar farm

Deplar is a converted sheep farm, situated in the remote Fljot valley in the mountainous Troll Peninsula in northern Iceland. Today’s modern structure celebrates a rugged past, and honors authentic Icelandic architecture with 13 en suite bedrooms.

It’s a one-stop-shop for adventure, solitude, mystery, and high-end amenities. The Fljot valley sees some of the highest average snowfall on the planet. As a result, the eastern route to Deplar is closed all winter, making its remote locale all the more raw and wild. Strategically located between Europe and the States, Iceland and Deplar offer easy access to otherworldly landscapes without hours of traveling. New York and London-based clients can be fishing or skiing on the same day of travel. The only question here is, “What’s your call to action?”

Snorri & Guðrún (Mirror Rooms)

The mirror rooms are located in old Deplar Farm. Akin to other rooms in old Deplar, they honor traditional Icelandic farmhouses, yet no detail is spared. Snorri has views to the east and south, while Guðrún has windows facing south and west.

Flóki is located in the attic of the old Deplar Farm. One of our largest rooms and full of character, it’s arguably the nicest, with a living area, windows on three sides, and slanted ceilings.

Odin is a more intimate attic room with slanted ceilings and elevated design. It has a great northern view towards both the lake and river.

Frigg, Auður, Freyja and Skaði (Gallery Rooms)

The gallery rooms are four rooms located on the top main floor, between the bar and dining area. They feature high ceilings, balconies, and a mezzanine loft with a double bed and hammock. The rooms face both southeast, with dramatic mountain views (Frigg & Auður), and northwest, with lake and river views (Freyja & Skaði).

Gunnar & Gísli (Spa Rooms)

The spa rooms are two rooms located below the main floor, between the guide room and spa. Expect a cozy, countryside feel with dramatic, eastern-facing mountain views.

Álfahóll (Bunk)

The bunk room is a signature Eleven room found at every Eleven property. The Deplar bunk has four twin size beds (a 5th can be added), a small living area, private deck, and a double en-suite. Perfect for kids who want to have a tricked-out Icelandic slumber party

Accommodation Insight

In the spa, there’s an indoor-outdoor saltwater pool, kept toasty by geothermal energy, with a swim-up bar. Swim under the midnight sun in summer, or stargaze on long winter nights. On the opposite side of the farm house, there’s an open-air hot tub, which can be booked for private soaks.

Minimalist in design, the airy spa prompts you to focus on relaxation and the lunar-like mountain range framed by floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s a masseuse on hand who’s skilled in Swedish, deep-tissue, shiatsu and jet lag-busting pummelling, and additional therapists can be recruited as needed. After your treatment, meditate in an i-sopod flotation tank, limber up with a yoga session, relax in the sunroom, or hop from the steam room to the unheated plunge pool. Deplar Spa also offers personal and CrossFit training, and post-ski stretching sessions.

If there’s a singular Eleven property that has perfected our secret sauce—off the grid, a mix of zen and stoke-able scenery, and “best day of my life” potential—it’s Deplar Farm. Given Iceland’s astronomical tourism boom, Deplar is perfectly positioned as the island’s top property. Located on the Troll Peninsula, the modern lodge is a nod to the local landscape and Icelandic architecture, yet seamlessly surprises: Watch the Northern Lights from an outdoor, geothermal infinity pool after a day of summit-to-sea heli-skiing, ski touring, or snowmobiling.

Discover the most coveted fishing beats. Here, catch and release takes on a whole new meaning. Catch the Icelandic local mentality. We call it #pureiceland. And release prior expectation. Deplar will challenge. Inspire. An Icelandic adrenaline boost paired with a meticulously curated lodging experience.
